Did you miss InvestiGeek? Because I sure did!
First and foremost, I apologize for falling off the face of the Earth. I know I have taken hiatuses before by posting semi-regularly, but I haven’t completely removed myself before.
But, you can expect InvestiGeek in your mailbox once again!
Here are a few insights into what you can expect from InvestiGeek.
Let Me Explain
As some of you might know, I am a marketer by day and a writer constantly. While these skills are immensely valuable for each other, somewhere along the way, the marketer’s optimization drowned out the writer.
In fact, I built my professional portfolio fitted with a blog-based newsletter a few months ago and it was downhill from there.
I knew I couldn’t double-post all my content, so there needed to be an obvious separation between the content on my portfolio newsletter and InvestiGeek.
That seperation? Personal views, of course.
If I was writing in my voice, it qualified as a personal newsletter. If it was more analytical and based on findings, it was an InvestiGeek post.
The arising problem may be obvious for you reading this, but for some reason, it took me a while to figure out.
The fangirl who created InvestiGeek back in 2019 was siphoned out of InvestiGeek!
This entire platform was founded on the musing of a fangirl who searched for an outlet for all her thoughts. The fangirl who spent hours scrounging across the internet for answers to questions that others might be asking.
The writer gave her a voice and the marketer gave her a platform. However, the marketer got carried away and implemented a strict schedule, writing structure, and, eventually, voice.
The writer was muffled. The fangirl was exhausted. Both sides no longer enjoyed the process, so they hid away.
That was until two weeks ago. I mostly can thank playing Tears of the Kingdom, defeating Radahn in Elden Ring (with co-op mod installed), giggling at Maomao and Jinshi in Apothecary Diaires, seeing my world-development methods reflected in Divine Rivals, and a few other fictional worlds that I am currently forgetting.
After forcefully removing myself from this ship, I knew it was finally time to return when thoughts for posts were constantly pinging around my mind in need of release. So, here I am. Back at the keyboard and ready to share.
The point is, I enjoy the process again!
“So… Does That Mean You Will Post Again?”
Yes! And my posts will actually be written with my voice!
InvestiGeek was inspired by late nights scrolling through fanart, memes, and theories surrounding my favorite books, shows, etc. It was founded on a heart yearning for more creators to share their perspectives on their favorite content.
Now, with several years of professional writing and research experience, I am positioned to conduct my research and share my findings.
If I were to describe the evolution of my writing, I would say I currently stand somewhere between a nonsensical critique and a giddy professor. I am keen on observing topics that are typically viewed as unimportant.
My work will be biased, but I find that sparks the best discussions and I never want that river to run dry.
Ideally, the lifecycle of InvestiGeek content is as follows: Consume original content. Review secondary material. Share findings. Engage with commentary. Repeat.
What Not To Expect
I want to make it apparent that you should not expect InvestiGeek to cover your typical news topics. Such as:
- When is the next episode of ___ being released?
- How many chapters in ___?
- What is the target age for ___?
While I have covered similar topics in the past, they have no place on InvestiGeek. These topics can be found by a simple Google search thanks to dozens of news feeds, so they go against the “investigative” aspect of InvestiGeek.
Also, they are not fun to write or read.
What You Can Expect
You can, however, expect a few fun twists on such questions:
- The finale of ___ explained.
- If ___ added a few more chapters to ___, here is what I would request.
- Why non-target audiences hate ___.
Are you sensing a pattern here? I aim to engage with the source material and outside material. I want to spark conversation surrounding the impact of a particular media.
The loose structure you can expect for InvestiGeek posts is anything related to the fantasy worlds I am currently obsessed with.
My initial thought was to limit the experience to fantasy novels, but with Apothecary Diaries (anime) and Love and Deepspace (mobile game) currently at the forefront of my mind, I find it very limiting to discuss only novels. This is especially true since one of the major series I would like to develop is discussing what books/games/shows/etc. casts of other books/games/shows/etc. would enjoy.
Also, to start, posts will be scheduled every week. I plan to eventually post more frequently, but until the gears are well-oiled, I can promise a weekly publication.
The fact that the fangirl in me is giddy even writing about what I will be writing… I sense good things in our future.
InvestiGeek Outside Of .com
Writer, researcher, marketer, graphic designer… I have a few fields of knowledge that will be utilized for the creation of InvestiGeek.
Since those of you reading this post have been with me the longest, I want to share a few endeavors you can expect shortly.
InvestiGeek Community Discord
For those of you who want to share more than a simple comment on a post, I am building a Discord community. By connecting with other InvestiGeeks, we can discuss posts, vote on polls, and share our favorite books/shows/games/etc.
Not only will this be a perfect opportunity to connect with other fans, but it will also provide primary source material for upcoming articles.
Who doesn’t love a good poll and questionnaire?
And the juicy cherry on top? Seeing your response as part of an article that is an interpretation of the data provided!
More to come on the InvestiGeek Discord in the very shortly.
RedBubble Product Lines
InvestiGeek Redbubble store already exists (see for yourself), but this is a very loose structure of what it could be.
With only Stephanie Garber’s Once Upon a Broken Heart and Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 as the main product lines, InvestiGeek’s shop is a far cry away from being a comprehensive selection.
While I do love working with specific media, I find it more beneficial to pay ode to the passion behind such explorations. For example, instead of directly referencing Rhysand, I would rather create a design paying tribute to the love for morally gray fictional men.
If I didn’t explain that properly, I simply say, “Trust me. If you like what InvestiGeek is doing, then you would appreciate the InvestiGeek items that are upcoming.”
See You Around!
I look forward to connecting with you all as we continue down the path of InvestiGeek.
