This heartbreaking confession of Gloria’s wish for her son came right before her death and it should have been a sign of how tragic this entire show was going to be. All Gloria wanted was to see her son rise the ranks and finally see life better than the one she knew. Not to mention, this small confession set up one of the most heart-rending scenes of this show.
“Don’t Make A Name For Yourself As A Cyberpunk By How You Live… Make A Name By How You Die.”
Lucy
When David was new to the gang, Lucy dropped this important quote for the main character. Too bad she spoke true of this quote and now we are left with the traumatic deaths of the entire crew.
“This Is It. It’s The End Of The Line For Me. But Not For You.”
Maine
Either Maine’s death was shocking or it was inevitable, but either way, it was heartbreaking. The death of David’s mentor added yet another stressor for the young cyberpunk as he had to live up to yet another dying wish. However, despite the cyberpsychosis driving Maine mad, he was able to deliver this line before he made his final sacrifice for his crew.
“I’m Gonna Take You There Myself, Fly You To The Moon. That’s A Promise.”
David Martinez
David had a lot of promises and goals he had yet to deliver, but this is perhaps the one wish we all wish he would have seen through. David cared deeply for Lucy and the simple goal she wanted to see through, so he promised he would be there for her when the time came.
“Use the Cyberskeleton If You Want To Survive.”
Lucy
While this quote didn’t truly come from Lucy, it was still her voice that convinced David to make the move that doomed him in the end. This pivotal point of the show was highlighted by the signature written font filling up the entire screen, proving how overwhelming the sentence was to David at the moment.
“Sorry, Wish We Could Go To The Moon Together.”
David Martinez
The moment David admitted to himself his inevitable death and apologizes to Lucy is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. While he lived up to Gloria’s dream of seeing the top of the Arasaka tower, he was never able to fulfill the dream of seeing the moon with Lucy. When he loaded into the cyberskeleton, he knew it was a death wish, and being as young as he was, there was a lot he had to look forward to.
“Whoa! Check this! I Can Feel the Sun!”
David Martinez in Memory
Yet another quote we cannot tribute to the character himself, but yet it was still tied to them in the moment. When Lucy finally makes it to the moon, she cannot help but picture David living out the dream with her. As he feels the sun, he shouts out this line, staying true to the light-hearted characteristics he had long before Night City and Cyberware took that away from him.
